Gold Carat

Carat is a unit of measurement used to determine the purity of gold alloys. It is denoted by the symbol ct or kt (c or k). In determining the purity of gold alloys, carat means a proportion by weight of one part in twenty four or 41.66 parts per 1000. This means that the higher the carat, the higher the proportion of gold in relation to the base metal content. Therefore, pure gold is 24 carats.
